Pay It Forward

What is Pay It Forward?

Pay It Forward donations are simple, one-off, random acts of kindness to random strangers. Pay It Forward donations are generally used for when someone needs a helping hand, an uplift in spirit, or fulfilling a low hanging fruit situation. They are usually unconditional, no bloat or formality, no strings attached, and are typically low cost but high impact. People in the lower wealth classes already do Pay It Forward all the time, but rather than relying on personal funds, people can draw from the nonprofit's pool

Examples of Pay It Forward

Here are some real life examples:

  • Someone is in a bad spot with the bills this month
  • Treating a stranger to comfort food after a bad day
  • Letting a homeless feel cared about
  • Escaping loan sharks
  • Helping with hospital bills
  • A nice gift to an unsuspecting stranger
  • Someone needs some tools or equipment to get their business running

The Simple Importance of Pay It Forward

Pay It Forward is about strangers giving joy and kindness to strangers. When a stranger gives joy and kindness to others without strings attached, others may feel the same positive energy and will naturally want to pass the energy to the next people. In a world of distrust, we forget what unconditional joy and kindness feels like, so simple acts of joy and kindness are rare and shocking. We forget that when we create joy in others, we create joy in ourselves. Pay It Forward teaches us that our world should be an abundance of infectious joy and kindness, not an abundance of distrust.
